With over 3.8 million shared pictures and videos showing cats in their usual astonishing quirks, these furry creatures undeniably rule the internet. The best news is that this internet explosion had helped in giving homes and hearts to a number of stray cats. This time, let us allow ourselves to be bewitched, yet again, by the cats’ paw-tastic contributions to the Guinness World Records.
Guinness cat record for the shortest cat in the world!
The Guinness World Records had approved of Lilieput, a ten-year-old black and mocha munchkin, as the world’s shortest domestic cat. Lilieput measures just 13.34 centimetres (5.25 inches) from the bottom of the paws to the top of her shoulders.
Her owner, Christel Young from Napa, California, USA, met Lilieput as a poor abandoned cat years ago. After the adoption, her owner hopes to let the world know of this unique feline. Now, this half-pint cat has earned its spot along with other extreme record-holders in Guinness World Records. Young was quite overwhelmed by the acceptance from the people’s comments on a Facebook post showing Liliput’s rarity.
Guinness cat record for the first of its kind to perform the most skills in one minute!
If you are known to have nine lives, you might as well make at least one of them worth remembering. Didga, a rescue cat of Robert Dollwet, puts her nine lives to good use with her skateboarding prowess.
Didga passed the entry of being a Guinness World Record holder of the ‘most tricks performed by a cat in one minute’ in Tweed Heads, New South Wales, Australia. The rules require the potential holder to perform each trick profoundly and independently. Commands should not be given with any human contact to the animal.
Didga, short for Didgeridoo, simply achieved this demand, from rolling over to jumping over a bar whilst on a skateboard. Surprisingly, she outdid her 2017 Guinness World Record. This time, she registered twenty-four individual tricks in only sixty seconds!
Guinness cat record for the cat with the loudest purr!
Coming from Torquay, Devon (UK), is a rescue cat named Merlin. She was adopted by his owners, Tracy Westwood and daughter Alice, from an animal rescue centre in the area around Kingskerswell.
‘If he’s cleaning, he gets louder, and sometimes if the telephone rings, I do get people asking me, “what’s that noise in the background.” I tell them it’s the cat but I don’t know if they believe me,’ says Westwood.
The average domestic cat’s purr should only be at around 25 decibels. However, the record-breaking purr from Merlin outdid all cats with a measurement of 67.8 decibels, passing the previous record of 67.68 decibels in 2011. By reaching almost 70 decibels, her purr is comparable to the noise from an air conditioner.
Guinness cat record for the longest fur!
Sophie Smith, a rescued cat, rightfully earned the spot for the longest fur on a cat. Sophie’s fur reached a measurement of 25.68 centimetres (10.11 inches) at its longest point. This means that Sophie surpassed the previous holder, Colonel Meow, who has fur as long as 9 inches.
Jami Smith, Sophie’s owner, is a volunteer at a local dog-rescue shelter. However, she did not get Sophie from the shelter. A couple of guys with a small paper bag asked her if she wants to have a kitten. Thinking about the kitten’s condition, she told them that she would take it. She was thinking of rendering Sophie to a local animal shelter but it only lasted for about thirty minutes until she decided Sophie will be going home with her.
Guinness cat record for the most viewed animal on YouTube!
Winning the hearts of millions of people starting from his first video in 2008, Maru (’round’ in Japanese) collected a Guinness World Record title for having the ‘most views for an animal on YouTube.’
Maru, a Scottish fold, is a cardboard box-loving feline that currently has more than 600,000 subscribers on YouTube under the name ‘mugumogu.’ Check out her channel for more ‘Maru the cat’ moments.
Guinness cat record for the longest tail!
Another Guinness World Record holder is the marvellous silver Maine Coon cat named Cygnus Regulus Powers from Ferndale, Michigan.
His tail is 44.6 centimetres (17.58 inches) long. In fact, Cygnus’s tail is considered longer than his body.
The owners, Lauren and Will Powers, admitted to being extra careful on closing doors for fear that his tail might get accidentally caught.
Guinness cat record for the tallest domestic cat!
The tallest domestic cat comes from the same household as Cygnus. This is none other than his brother, Arcturus. With the height of 48.4 centimetres (19.05 inches) and weight of about 30 pounds, Arcturus Aldebaran Powers can stand at a table to eat. His owners acquired a catio, an outdoor cat enclosure with a medium-sized dog door, as his playroom.
