cat breeds comparisonFrom a study conducted in 2010, cats were ranked as the third most popular pet in the UK next to fish and dogs. Cats are usually referred to as either of the two:

  • Purebred

Purebred cats have a pedigree history of its lineage, whilst domestic cats do not. Additionally, there are 3 main associations that recognise purebred cats, these are:

  • The International Cat Association (TICA)
  • Federation Internationale Feline (FIFe)
  • The Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA)

Each association has different numbers of recognised purebreds; TICA recognising 71, FIFe recognising 43, and CFA recognising 42. The breeds that were not recognised by the three associations are presumed to be rarely seen compared to those that are recognised.
