The 16th annual New York Pet Fashion Show was held in Hotel Pennsylvania, flauntingly exhibited dogs donning gem-studded masquerade costumes and masks. Each pooch displayed unique ensemble designs in keeping up with this year’s theme: Masquerade Ball for Animal Rescue.
NY Pet Fashion Show 2019 is an animal rescue benefit wherein a portion of its earnings supports the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals. It is an organisation that advocates implementing a higher quality of ‘forever homes’ and quality life for companion animals.
Behold, the Dazzling Runway
The NY Pet Fashion Show 2019 has four runway shows comprised of different themes, namely Hollywood Dreams, Angels & Demons Couture, International Masquerade Couture, and Best in Show. Various designers from all over the world such as Thailand, Mexico, Egypt, Italy, and France took part in the event. Each animal together with their handlers sashayed down the runway in their respective themed attires.

The Royal Puptial Wedding
An early celebration for Valentine’s Day has happened in NY Pet Fashion Show 2019. It featured a wedding of two rescue dogs, Meghan Barkle and Harry Prince of Tails.
The long veil and white dress worn by Meghan Barkle is inspired from the Givenchy gown worn by Duchess Meghan Markle when she married Prince Harry. On the other hand, Harry Prince of Tails looks utterly dashing in his black military-style uniform that is adorned with a small replica of the royal’s traditional red hat.

There were several rescue dog attendees, namely the queen mum, a soldier, two bridesmaids, and a flower girl. The royal puptial wedding was made complete by adding a royal carriage and a royal motorised mini Mercedes.

Breaking the Norm
There were two unique pets that stood out amongst the others that have attended the fashion show. They are Midge, the miniature pony and Effie, a disabled pit bull.
Midge

Midge was the very first horse that participated in the acclaimed pet fashion show. She was glamorously dressed in a white and red sequined cape coupled with a matching mask. ‘It was a dream come true,’ said Nieves, an outfit designer for cats, dogs, chickens, and even a camel. ‘I kept things simple because I wanted her to be comfortable. No pant legs. But I did add a lot of bling.’
For Midge to become part of such a famous event was considered a big feat by her owners, Mindy and Justine Almida, who rescued her from her bad housing condition two years ago. They recollected that back when Midge was in Texas, she was kept in a dog crate.
Despite her rough past and her medical condition of dwarfism, her tranquil personality easily won people’s hearts and later led to her becoming a therapy horse. She would visit schools, nursing homes, and hospitals to help people overcome their mental health issues.

Effie

Effie Brown, a pit bull and disabled rescue dog, was nominated as an overall representative for all handicapped pooches. She is the first-ever pit bull and wheelchair dog to walk on the NYC Pet Fashion Show runway.
When the pooch was discovered by Apollo Support and Rescue (ASR), she was suffering from urine burns and extreme pain, and worst of all, she cannot move the lower half of her body. She had been living in poor condition inside a plastic bin in a Texas garage.
ASR partnered with Handicapped Pets in order to provide her with a wheelchair. They gave her Walkin’ Wheels, which has now become her handy tool in strutting down the grand runway of the New York Pets Fashion Show 2019.
