Despite having an average population of 1 million bunnies in the UK this year, insurance for rabbits is limited in the pet industry. Regardless of that, owners are still encouraged to get insurance for their floppy-eared pets by veterinarians and other pet professionals.

So, is rabbit insurance worth it? Is there rabbit insurance for older rabbits? Considering that vet bills are continuously on the rise, having your fluffy pet insured may be the best decision. There are some companies that offer insurance for rabbits before reaching a specific age of seven or so.

What you can get from rabbit insurance

By definition, rabbit insurance is no different from other pet insurance. It aims to protect your beloved pet when things go out of hand. Whether it is an accident or illness, you will be forced to pay for expensive treatment bills. In fact, delicate pets are susceptible to diseases as much as any other pets. This means that vet trips are to be expected.

Getting the right insurance significantly helps. By paying a small amount of money per month, it gives you an assurance that you are capable to meet vet bills when the situation occurs.

Types or level of rabbit insurance

  • Annual/Time-limited cover
As the name implies, annual coverage lasts for over twelve months. It is less expensive given that it has a limit on its costing as well as time. Remember that it no longer covers illnesses after the due date of the policy. The said condition will then be considered as pre-existing upon the renewal of the insurance policy.
  • Lifetime cover
Lifetime coverage tends to be more expensive as policyholders are entitled to decide their own limit on vet fees each year. It also means that your pet rabbit is covered throughout its lifetime. This is the most convenient type of coverage for pets that have recurring illnesses or ailments.
  • Accident-only insurance
Accident-only insurance policy refers to the coverage of any complications acquired from accidents but with an agreed amount of money. It does not necessarily pay expenses for one-off or ongoing illnesses.
  • Per condition cover
Coverage per condition has its own limitation of a maximum amount. Once a certain amount has been reached, the said coverage will no longer be effective. That being said, you will be held financially responsible once the limit has been reached.
