Freddie is a 6yr old Basset Hound, he is neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped, flea and worm treated and will be rehomed with 5 weeks free pet insurance. Freddie was handed into us by his owner after they took him on from a supposed breed rescue, despite them having a small child they were homed Freddie who unfortunately has some resource guarding issues leading him to have bitten on occasions. When they tried to return Freddie they were told he would be put to sleep so contacted us to see if we could help which of course we were happy to do so, we have lots of experience with resource guarding dogs, especially bassets. Freddie is generally an absolutely smashing, loving and friendly lad. He adores other dogs and loves to gallop around playing and having a rough and tumble if someone will play with him so he will definitely need a home with another neutered hound for company. Unusually Freddie doesnt display any serious resource guarding issues around the other dogs but he will guard items from people, particularly any item he has stolen, which for anyone who knows bassets, will understand that they can be the biggest thiefs going :) He also appears to have an issue with feet and may have been kicked in the past so care needs to be taken around blocking him with a foot as he will react if he feel threatened. Freddie is what we would classed as a typical resource guarder in that he displays the classic signs when he is anxious about losing something he holds in high regard but as long as a new owner is experienced in reading the signals and understands how to manage the situation by swopping for a higher value item in an appropriate way he is straight forward to manage on a daily basis. Freddie does love his blankets...a bit too much and uses them as a stress relief and will hump them, we just leave him to get on with it if its giving him comfort. He is a typical vocal hound when he is excited or wants something, is stubbern and has selected deafness like pretty much every basset we have ever met but saying that he is eager to please and tasty titbits are the way to his heart. He is in great condition, a perfect weight and doesnt look his age. He absolutely LOVES to run offlead on our secure land with the other dogs but has "basset recall" so should not be trusted to be offlead unless in a safe secure space although he does follow the pack...eventually. Freddie is spotless in the house, is non destructive and sleeps quietly downstairs with the other dogs overnight with no issues. He is strong on the lead at first but does settle down He travels well in the car. Freddie definitely needs a home with another neutered canine friend, he will bark and chase cats but there is no malice in him. Freddie cannot be rehomed with children in the home or where there are regularly visiting small children. Being fostered in Swadlincote, Derbys but can be rehomed further afield to the right home subject to homecheck and donation. If you feel you have the right experienced home in both bassets and resource guarding please email us telling us all about your home offer and experience along with your contact details to [email removed]
